The key to success in development is the strength of relationships and partnerships. We put our partnerships first — creating and supporting them with transparent communication and active involvement in the process.

Over the past several years we have had the great pride and pleasure of working with terrific individuals, families and organizations. A few examples:

Local Investor: Prior to the development of Ellipse and Helix, the majority of Harbor’s partnerships involved a family or an organization with land, and a desire to develop that land — for both business and legacy motivations. In 2004, with the pending development of the sister projects in the University District, Harbor was introduced to a local investor who had an interest in multi-family development. This gentleman shared the vision that Harbor had for the neighborhood, saw a financial opportunity. After his experience with these two developments, this new Harbor stakeholder became an enthusiastic investor in yet another neighborhood, West Seattle, as he has committed to the upcoming Link project.

I have done several projects with Harbor Properties. Not only are they good at what they do, but equally important, they are very ethical in all their business dealings. Great people to do business with! — Jim Sepic

Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI) — 307 Westlake: With researchers cramped into the hallways and sensitive equipment relegated to corners, SBRI was a growing firm in need of a new home. The non-profit research organization needed to be an owner in its new building, and needed high-tech space to support its studies of malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. Leading a team of individuals from Vulcan Real Estate and SBRI, Harbor put together a partnership that allowed SBRI to realize its dream and to continue to excel in its research.

Heath Family — Press I and Press II: The Heath family invented the printing press that prints checks. And, they have long been a property owner on Capitol Hill in Seattle. In 1999, the Heath’s decided to reinvest in their land holdings and partnered with Harbor Properties to build the first of two new apartment buildings in the Pike/Pine Corridor. Multiple generations of the Heath family were involved in the developments, and even supplied family heirlooms to display in the lobbies of the apartment buildings. To honor the Heaths, the buildings were named after the family’s invention — Press!
